Injectable vitamin D3 is an option for the intramuscular administration of cholecalciferol, used for the prevention and correction of vitamin D deficiency, especially in situations where oral administration is not possible, is not sufficient or where there are digestive absorption problems.

Intramuscular administration may be considered in the case of vitamin D deficiency, especially when there is reduced digestive absorption, oral administration is not possible or the response to oral supplementation is insufficient.
As this is a high dose of vitamin D, the treatment is carried out only on the doctor's recommendation, following an individual assessment and the relevant laboratory tests.
The dose and the interval between administrations are established individually by the doctor, depending on the serum level of vitamin D, the patient's requirements and the clinical context.
The administration of vitamin D in high doses is contraindicated in hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria and hypervitaminosis D and requires careful assessment in patients with kidney conditions, a history of kidney stones or other disorders of calcium and phosphorus metabolism.
Depending on the clinical context, the doctor may recommend the assessment of 25-OH vitamin D, calcium and kidney function before administration and their monitoring during the course of treatment.
