Vitamins as biomarkers of longevity: from supplementation to medical strategy

Measuring vitamin levels in longevity is essential because it reflects the metabolic status, mitochondrial function and level of chronic inflammation, contributing to the assessment of biological age and to the personalization of medical strategies for active longevity.

Medical tests and biomarkers

Why is measuring vitamin levels important in longevity?

In longevity medicine, vitamins are not seen exclusively as supplements, but as biological indicators of metabolic, mitochondrial and cellular functioning. Vitamin status reflects the body's capacity to adapt to stress, the efficiency of energy metabolism and the pace of aging processes.

Longevity medicine goes beyond the concept of chronological age and focuses on the assessment of biological and metabolic age. Vitamin deficiencies or excesses can contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation, alteration of energy metabolism and loss of cellular integrity – central mechanisms involved in accelerated aging.

The role of vitamins in the biological processes of longevity

Vitamin D Is a steroid hormone with a major role in the regulation of immunity, the health of the bone and muscle system, cardiovascular function and metabolic balance. Low and/or suboptimal levels are frequently associated with chronic inflammation, sarcopenia, insulin resistance and increased cardiovascular risk.

The B-complex vitamins are essential for methylation processes, DNA synthesis, the function of the nervous system and cellular energy metabolism. Imbalances can contribute to chronic fatigue, subtle cognitive disorders, neuropathies and the acceleration of neurodegenerative processes.

Vitamin C has an essential role in antioxidant defence, collagen synthesis, endothelial function and support of the immune system, contributing to the reduction of oxidative stress.

Vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant, protects cell membranes from lipid peroxidation, but its administration must be carefully individualized in order to avoid redox imbalances.

Why supplementation without measurement does not support longevity

Supplementation without a prior biological assessment can be ineffective or, in certain situations, harmful. An excess of certain vitamins can interfere with liver or kidney function, with the absorption of other micronutrients or with the physiological mechanisms of cellular adaptation.

In longevity medicine, supplementation is not standardized, but personalized, guided by tests and monitored periodically, according to the metabolic and clinical response.

The approach at the Maison Longévité clinic

At Maison Longévité, measuring vitamin levels is part of an integrative medical assessment, which includes body composition analysis, the assessment of metabolic and inflammatory status, the determination of biological age and the correlation of these with lifestyle and individual objectives.

The therapeutic strategy is adapted to each patient and adjusted over time, on the basis of objective data and rigorous medical interpretation.

Longevity is not the result of an isolated intervention, but of a coherent medical strategy, oriented towards continuous optimization and long-term functionality.
